Validio 5.0: BI monitoring and improved search and filtering

May 27, 2025
Sophia GranforsSophia Granfors

TL;DR

Validio 5.0 is here, and it’s a big one. With this release, we’re bringing Validio directly into your BI dashboards through our brand-new browser extension. We’ve also delivered powerful improvements to segmentation and windowing workflows, giving you deeper control and better usability right where it counts.

Let’s dig into the highlights of this release and what it unlocks for your data quality workflows. All details are in the changelog, but in short, this is what we've added:

  • 📊 BI tool browser extensions: Surface data quality signals directly inside Looker, Tableau, Power BI, and Sigma.
  • 🔍 Enhanced segmentation controls: Configure segment limits, filter segments by use case, and preview frequency distributions.
  • ⏱ Improved tumbling windows: Fine-tune historical lookbacks and partition filters.

BI tool browser extensions

The new Validio browser extension brings contextual data quality insights straight into your BI workflows. Data quality is important, not only for technical users, but also for business users consuming data. Therefore, it's paramount to ensure quality in the business intelligence feeding decision-making.

Whether you’re working in Looker, Power BI, Sigma, or Tableau, the Validio browser extension displays for BI tools displays:

  • The number of data quality incidents since the latest poll on a data source.
  • A summary of incidents alongside your dashboards and assets.
  • A click-through to the full incident details in Validio for deeper analysis.

The extension is currently available for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. For full setup details, check out our Browser Extension documentation.

Smarter segment configuration, filtering & search

Segmentations just got a major upgrade—across configuration, discovery, and filtering.

New filtering and search capabilities:

You can now filter listings by segmentation across multiple product views—such as incidents, source incidents, and validator details. Search for a segment and then refine your results by the validators using it.

More control during setup:

New options while configuring segmentations:

  • Segment usage limits let you control how many segments are allowed (affecting retention and initial data ingestion).
  • Use case-based filters—like minimum size or top-count segments—let you remove noise without writing SQL.
  • Segmentation previews display segment counts in a table and a histogram for quick visual analysis.

For details, see the Segmentation configuration documentation.

The updates to segment configuration, search and filtering allows improved usability.

More configurable tumbling windows

We've improved the configuration experience for all window types. Tumbling windows now includes two new parameters:

  • Historic data (maximum): The lookback period defined for tumbling windows is the maximum limit. The actual backfill amount can depend on the segment usage limit defined with segmentation.
  • Partition filtering: For partitioned tables, you can add a filter to remove irrelevant columns in queries.

More in the Configuring Tumbling Windows documentation.

In addition to these updates, there are also several minor changes in the APIs, the platform and the UI. For all updates, check the 5.0 changelog.
